Externship and Residency at Soldier Center
Externship

An externship is provided for qualified clinicians who desire to develop advanced skills in working with military personnel, veterans and their families.  Particular emphasis includes the application of EMDR as an evidence-based psychotherapy in working with persons suffering with complex trauma.  Participants meet one weekend a month with designated faculty.  The development of advanced clinical skills working as a member of a treatment team is combined with the study of complext trauma issues is offered to select participants.  Clinical consultation and supervision is provided.  Topics include understanding the military culture in the treatment of trauma, the neuropsychology of combat trauma, psychopharmacology of complex trauma, sexual compulsivity and internet addiction, EMDR as a efficacious treatment  of complex trauma, family therapy with (m)TBI and PTSD issues, addressing disssociative issues in treatment, treatment planning, along with other select topics.  Phone Soldier-Center or email us for further information.


Residency
A new one-year residency program begins at Soldier Center in the Fall 2012 for clinicians who which to develop advanced clinical skills in the psychological treatment of soldiers and military families.  The program will include weekly seminars related to complex issues such as combat trauma with its associated symptoms, military culture issues, as well as marital and family issues among military personnel, veterans and their family members.  Clinical consultation and supervision is available on a weekly basis.  Such consultation/supervision can be applied toward certification and membership with a number of professional organizations including the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (CSAT), and the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA).

Some interested clinicians will have the opportunity of participating in research projects evaluating the efficacy of various psychotherapy models in the treatment of disruptive life events.  Other clinicians will participate in regional and national presentations focusing military issues and current treatment approaches for the purpose of advancing the knowledge and treatment of military personnel and their families within the broader professional community.

The one-year program provides for licensed clinicians to enjoy the benefits of serving military personnel and their families as a full time staff member at Soldier Center while earning income dependent on clinical experience and credentials.
