Dr. E. C. Hurley, PhD Is Director of the Soldier-Center, located in the Clarksville, Tennessee/Ft Campbell, Kentucky. He is a licensed psychotherapist (LMFT) in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia. Dr. Hurley has over 30 years of experience in providing individual, marital and family therapy.
E. C. specializes in working with military personnel and their families. He is retired from the U.S. Army with over 33 years of military experience. He has served in the U.S. military in Korea, Germany, Southwest Asia (Kuwait, Saudia Arabia, and Iraq), and numberous assisgnments within the United States. His military awards include the Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit and the Air Assault badge.
He is an Approved Supervisor with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy as well as the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP) as a CSAT-Supervisor.
E. C. has been trained in most models of psychotherapy and maintains a specialty in treating persons with trauma using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). He is a Certified EMDR therapist, and Approved Consultant with EMDR International Association and an EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program (EMDR HAP). He and his wife Nancy have volunteered their time in responding to natural disasters such as the post-Katrina response in Louisanna following the hurricane. Curently he treates soldiers who suffer with unresolved combat trauma as well as family members.
E. C. has provided EMDR trainings to U. S. Army at installations throughout the United States and Europe.
He holds a PhD in clinical psychology from an APA approved program, a Doctor of Ministry degree in pastoral counseling, a Masters degree in clinical psychology, a Master of Divinity degree in pastoral ministry, and a Masters in counseling services and human relations. E. C. completed 5 quarters of Clinical Pastoral Education at Kettering Medical Center and Ft Knox CPE Center, a community based model. He volunteers to train mental health professionals at not-for-profit mental health agencies and military agencies throughout the United States.

E. C. talks with a National Guard soldier who provided security to New Orlean's 9th Ward following hurricane Katrina. He and wife Nancy served as logistics coordinator for the EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program's disaster response network to the disaster stricken area.

Dr. Hurley speaks to American contractors recently returned from service in Iraq. He addressed the participants assembled at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Knoxville, TN on the topic of "PTSD Signs following Service in A Combat Zone."

Dr. E. C. Hurley led the 2009 EMDRIA Pre-Conference Workshop on EMDR and Combat Trauma. The presentation included "Understanding the military culture," "Clinical Issues in working with complex PTSD," "Working within an active duty and civilian environment," "The Standard 8 Phase protocol," "Extended Preparation Phase with complex trauma." Other presenters included Barry Francke, MA (Camp Pendleton, CA), Jan Click, MSW (Greater LA VA Medical Center), and Jamie Zabukovec, PhD (Dallas VA Center).
E. C. provides approved EMDR consultation to clinicians working with active duty military personnel and veterans. He is a trainer for the U. S. Army's Medical Corps and the EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP).
